Creative Wellness is a YouTube Playlist of 37 videos using Rec Room to paint in Virtual Reality. These videos were painted in the immediate time after the murder of George Floyd as one response for using art therapy techniques to explore social wellness. These videos were produced to be shared on social media as a one-a-day creative wellness exercise.
June 15, 2020, Blog Post: My Dad is a Licensed Psychologist and gives me great books. When I was a grad student in art history he always had a few books on the back seat of his car for me, something I love about him. My dad also gives me books on business leadership and cultivating creativity. One book recently stood out to me, 250 Brief, Creative, and Practical Art Therapy Techniques, A Guide for Clinicians & Clients, Susan I. Buchalter, ATR-BC, CGP, LPC. (2017).
These videos, inspired by this book, are a reaction to my stress after the police murder of George Floyd and the recent violence that erupted in Minneapolis. As I mitigated my stress, I saw the potential of sharing community healing experiences socially by using creative technology, Virtual Reality, and digital media to reach wider audiences.
These creative healing videos, and social activities that explore wellbeing are inspired by Buchalter’s work. After the first couple, I found my voice and adapted each to Better World Museum’s audience with my personal experiences, improvisation, narrative, and creative flow. They are not offered as commercial, medical, or psychological services; I am not a licensed art therapist. If you are undergoing anxiety, depression, or suicidal thoughts; please seek professional help.
Creative Healing is a new Drawing Together series to create more resilience and well-being today. Check out the entire growing PLAYLIST on YouTube, thank you!
